District Account Owners can set password management settings for their district. This guide only applies to districts that use CSV rostering (OneRoster format or Twig Science Format).

Access Global Password Settings
To access Global Password Settings:
- Log in to your Admin Dashboard.
- Click the “Users” tab.
- Click the “Global Password Setting” button. A modal displaying the following options will be displayed:
- Modify settings as required (we recommend you read Password Management Strategies first) and click Save changes when complete.

Sync Setting | Overwrite existing passwords with new CSV uploads/syncs | Checkbox ticked as default | Enabling this option means passwords will be overwritten with the supplied CSV password data in each subsequent CSV upload. |

Enabling this option, forces new users to set a new password when logging in. Best used when you don’t want to manage manage passwords and you want to force people to create their own. You can also use this option if you wish to set a generic password for initial access which must be changed when accessing the site. |
Password Change Permissions: Student passwords | Allow students, teachers and admins to change student passwords | Checkbox ticked as default | Enabling this option allows all users (including students) to update password. Disabling this option stops students from setting their own passwords. |
Password Change Permissions: Student passwords | Allow only teachers and admins to change student passwords | Checkbox unticked as default | Enabling this option allows all teachers and admin users to update student passwords. Disabling this option stops teachers and admin from setting student passwords. |
Password Change Permissions: Student passwords | Allow only admins to change student passwords | Checkbox unticked as default | Enabling this option allows all admin users to update student passwords. Disabling this option stops admin from setting student passwords. |
Password Change Permissions: Student passwords | Do not allow users to change students passwords | Checkbox unticked as default | Enabling this option prevents any user from changing student passwords. All password changes must be done via CSV upload or by the District Administrator. |
Password Change Permissions: Teacher passwords | Allow teachers and admins to change teacher passwords | Checkbox ticked as default | Enabling this option allows all teachers and admin users to update teacher passwords. |
Password Change Permissions: Teacher passwords | Allow only admins to change teacher passwords | Checkbox unticked as default | Enabling this option allows admin users to update teacher passwords. Teachers will be unable to update their own passwords if this option is selected. |
Password Change Permissions: Teacher passwords | Do not allow users to change teacher passwords | Checkbox unticked as default | Enabling this option prevents any user from changing student passwords. All password changes must be done via CSV upload or by the District Administrator. |
Reset | Reset all user passwords | Select option to trigger | Use with caution! If enabled all existing users in your district will be forced to reset their password when they next log in. Once you have opted to do this, it can't be undone. |
Password Management Strategies
The Twig Science platform can be configured to support various password strategies depending on your district requirements. Here’s an outline of the potential strategies that you may choose to implement:
- District supplies passwords in their CSV upload
- District does not allow users to change their passwords
- District does not supply passwords in the CSV upload
- District forces users to change their password on first login
- District does allow users to change their passwords
Password stragedy and settings
District sets and manages passwords. Users are not allowed to self manage
District does not set and manage passwords. Users self manage passwords
District allows selected users to set passwords
Create passwords following Twig Science's password criteria
We recommend passwords are set up using the following criteria:
- Contain at least 16 characters.
- Contain at least 1 number, 1 uppercase letter, 1 lowercase letter and 1 special character ie. @#$%^&+=
- Should not be the same as a previously used password.
- Shouldn't be a commonly used password.
