Twig Science has several accessibility features to help provide a great user experience for all. Twig Science has:
- An accessibility panel which allows you to personalize the display settings.
- A read-aloud feature for all assessments and assignments.
- Closed captions for all videos and Digital Interactives.

How do I enable the accessibility panel?
- Click the accessibility button, located in the bottom left corner of your screen.
- A pop up panel will appear, which gives you the ability to change many aspects of the site.
The panel includes:
Accessibility profiles—preset series of customizations
Content Adjustments—to modify the way the text displays on the screen
Color Adjustments—to change the contrast or select different colors for different portions of the display
Orientation adjustments—various other modifications including the ability to mute sounds, hide images, stop animations, and change the way the cursor looks - Enabling a feature will immediately take effect, so you can preview what your screen will look like while you still have the accessibility menu open. How you turn a feature on depends on the type of feature.
For the preset profiles, click the On button:
With most other features, all you have to do is click the tile:
In some cases, use the up or down arrows to set a feature exactly the way you want it:
- To revert all settings after making changes, click the Reset Settings button at the top of the panel. You can also turn off individual features by clicking the tile again, clicking the Off button, or using the arrows to set the feature back to the default setting.
How do I enable the read-aloud feature on lessons and assessments?
All lessons feature an audio player which enables users to listen to all the text on the page. The audio player can be found on student-facing lessons as well as the lessons in the educator portal.
- To listen to the page, click the Read Aloud button.
- The read-aloud function begins automatically, and words will be highlighted on the screen in time with the audio. Click the Stop button to pause it and the Play button to start it again. Click the X to close and exit the tool.
How do I use a PDF audio reader?
Click on an asset, then download it and use a screen reader that you've downloaded/installed separately on your device.
- Click on the resource to open it.
- Click Download PDF.
- Open the download and use your screen reader to read it aloud.
How do I turn on closed captions for videos and Digital Interactives?
Closed captions are available for both videos and Digital Interactives.
Closed captioning for Videos
Closed captions are available for all videos. Students and teachers can enable or disable closed captions using the video control panel. Follow the steps below to turn on video closed captions.
- Click on a video to start playback.
- In the bottom right-hand corner of the video player, click the CC icon.
- Choose the language of captions you wish to turn on.
Note
English (United States) captions will always be available; additional languages may depend on your subscription.
Closed Captioning for Digital Interactives
Any Digital Interactive which contains sound now comes with closed captioning available in English or Spanish. Students and teachers can enable or disable closed captions using the side control panel.
Click the CC icon to enable or disable captions.
