Note
This article applies to Dragonfly, StudySync, Traverse, and Twig Science.
After the Schoology administrator for your district sets up the LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability) integration, you can link assignments* and enable grade passback between Schoology and the Imagine Learning program(s). This removes the need for you to enter students' grades manually in Schoology—instead, you can grade assignments in the Imagine Learning program(s) and then send the grades electronically to Schoology. Students will also be able to view their grades from inside Schoology**.
*The assignment linking feature is not yet available for Twig Science. Teachers using Twig Science will be redirected to the Product Portal, where they can navigate to and then grade the assignment. The grade will then be reflected in Schoology.
**Dragonfly assignments that are only reviewed for completion but do not have a percentage grade will not be captured in the Schoology gradebook.
Open a section below to view the applicable instructions.
To turn on assignment linking and grade passback in your classes:
- Sign in to Schoology.
- Click the Courses tab at the top of your screen, then click on the applicable course tile (or create a new course).
- Click the Add Materials tab, then click on the app that your administrator created.
- If prompted, select the class/group to pair with the course, then click Continue.
-
All assignments from the classes/groups in your purview that have already been rostered (either manually or via an SSO integration) will appear in a list. You can also add a new assignment if you prefer.
Note
For StudySync customers: If you create a new assignment, be sure the Target is the class or group that you just linked. The new assignment will then appear in your list of assignments, although you may have to go back in to the Schoology tab, reload the page, wait a few moments, and then click Add Materials and select the app again.
- If an assignment is not already synced, click the Sync button next to it.
- The assignment is now available in the Materials section of your course in Schoology. Open the settings (gear icon) and select Edit.
- Select the correct app from the Tool Provider drop-down menu and save your changes.
- If you haven't created an applicable Category already, create one and apply it to each assignment. The category is necessary in order for the grade to be reflected in the gradebook.
The assignment is now linked and ready for students to complete.
To grade assignments and view grades in your classes:
- After students have submitted the assignment, return to the course in Schoology.
- Click on the name of the assignment you want to grade.
- The assignment from Dragonfly, StudySync, or Traverse will load inside Schoology. If you are using Twig Science, you'll be redirected to the Product Portal, where you can navigate to and grade the assignment.
- Grade the assignment.
- Click on Scores Sent to send grades back to Schoology. You can also click Scores Sent to resend scores if you've updated them.
Here is an example for StudySync:
- Click Yes in the Send Scores Now window to confirm.
-
Go to the Gradebook and you'll see a row for each student with their grades. (You may need to refresh your browser to see this.)
Tip
To edit grades, click the three dots at the top of the column, then select Edit.
