For all lessons and Leveled Readers in Twig Science Elementary, students can type answers directly into the online Twig Book using their computer or tablet. You can then view each student's answers and leave feedback that they can read the next time they log in. If you're suggesting changes to the student's answer, the student can edit their work and resubmit it to you for further evaluation.
This article covers:
- Navigating to students' answers
- Leaving feedback on students' answers (i.e., grading their work)
- Editing or deleting feedback
(Jump to the interactive tutorial on Lesson feedback and grading.)
To navigate to your students' answers:
- Log in to Twig Science Elementary.
- Access the lesson in one of the following ways:
- Click a lesson tile that you've pinned to your Teacher Dashboard.
- Use the Lesson Explorer to drill down from a module to a Driving Question to a lesson.
- From the Assigned Lessons page, click View in the Student Progress window.
(If you access the lesson this way, you'll be taken directly to that student's answers and do not need to complete the rest of the steps in this section.)
- Once you're on the lesson page, click Twig Book and then select Digital from the menu that opens.
- If you have multiple classes, use the Select class drop-down menu to select your class.
- From the drop-down menu in the top right corner, choose how you want to view the answers: by Student or by Question.
- View by Student allows you to review complete student lessons, one student at a time.
- View by Question allows you to select a specific question and evaluate all students' answers to that question, one after the other.
- In the additional menus that open, select either the student whose work you wish to view or the question you wish to review.
-
With View by Student, you also have the option to see your own copy with any notes you've saved for yourself.
Note
Once you select a student, you can use the forward and back arrows to quickly move from one student to the next.
-
With View by Question, you can choose to view the question in English (EN) or Spanish (ES).
Note
Once you select a question, use the forward and back arrows to quickly move from one area of the lesson to the next.

To provide feedback on your students' answers:
Rather than giving your students a numeric score or a letter grade, you can provide written feedback on how well they answered the questions. You can suggest ways to improve their answer, if applicable.
- Click on the white and green bubble underneath an answer.
- Type in your response and click Save.
- In the top left corner of the page, open the Progress Actions drop-down menu and select one of the following:
- Return to Student: Indicates you want the student to revise their work and re-submit it. The status of the lesson reverts to In Progress.
-
Mark as Complete: Indicates that no further edits are needed. The status of the lesson changes to Completed. The student will be able to view your feedback, but will no longer be able to update the lesson.
- When the student logs in, they'll see a New Feedback notification on the lesson tile of their student dashboard.
- The student should open the lesson, then look for and click on the green speech bubble, which indicates that teacher feedback is present.
- Once your student has read the feedback for that question, the icon will turn from green to white. When they've read all the feedback for that lesson, the notification on the lesson tile will disappear from their dashboard.
- If the student was asked to make changes, they should resubmit their work via the Turn In button near the top of the page.
To edit or delete feedback on a Digital Twig Book lesson:
Once you've left feedback, you can edit or delete your feedback at any time.
- Navigate to where you've left feedback and click on the green speech bubble icon.
- To edit the comment: Make your changes and then click Save.
- To delete the comment: Remove all the text in the text box and click Delete.
