How to archive and delete assignments

You can delete assignments if students did not attempt to do them. You can also archive assignments if students have already opened them.

  • Archiving assignments will hide them from your assignments tab and your search, but you can still access them using the assignment link.
  • Teachers can also bulk-archive assignments created on, or prior to, a specific date.

Click the class for which you want to see the assignments. Your class page has "Active assignments" and "Archived assignments" tabs.

Deleting an assignment

In the "Active Assignments" tab, locate the assignment you want to delete, then click the ellipsis menu on the right and click "Delete".

 Note

You will not be able to delete an assignment if a student has already attempted it. You will only be able to archive it.

Archiving assignments

In your "Active Assignments" tab, locate the assignment you wish to archive, then click the ellipsis menu and click on the "Archive" button.

 Note

You will not be able to archive an assignment if no students have attempted it. You will only be able to delete it.

You can also unarchive an assignment from the archived list.

  • In the "Archived assignments" tab, locate the assignment you wish to unarchive.
  • Click the ellipsis menu and click on the "Unarchive" button.

Archiving by date

If you want to archive several assignments at once, you can archive them by date.

  • On your class page, click "Edit" > "Archive assignments by date."

 Note

Archiving assignments by date will archive the assignments for all of your classes, regardless of which class page you are currently on.

Archiving on a selected date

  • Select the "Created before" date for archiving assignments.
  • Click "Archive" when you have finished selecting the date.

Active assignment in an archived class

  1. When a new assignment doesn't appear at the top of your assignment list, please review the full assignment list to ensure it didn't get ordered down lower. If you find it lower on the assignment list, click to access it.
  2. Sometimes an assignment will link to an archived class with the assignment open, causing it to be ordered in the new class assignment list based on the original creation date linked.
  3. To correct this, if no student has accessed the new assignment in the new class, you can delete the assignment to remove it from the class.

     Note

If students access the assignment, you will be unable to delete it, but can still archive it.

  4. Then, go to the archived Class that this assignment is still active in, and archive the assignment there.
  5. Once the assignments have all been archived, return to the new class, re-assign the assignment, and you should now see it listed at the top of the assignment list!

 Tips

To prevent this from happening in the future, you can go to your archived Classes with active assignments and click edit in the top right corner and archive by date to bulk archive all assignments. This will ensure new assignments don't link to old classes.
