Twig Elementary: All about Driving Questions

In Twig Science Elementary, the curriculum content is arranged in a hierarchy:

Grade > Module > Driving Question > Lesson

Teachers and Administrators can use the program's Lesson Explorer to drill down through the curriculum hierarchy and view all student-facing content, educator resources, and lesson-planning materials. 

After reading Getting Started with Lesson Explorer, use this article to take a closer look at Driving Questions (DQs) and explore the resources available for each DQ.

To access and peruse Driving Questions:

  1. Log in to Twig Science Elementary.
  2. Access the Lesson Explorer to drill down to a module and then open a Driving Question.

  3. The Driving Questions page opens. At the top of the page, underneath the question, you can assign Twig Books to students or access the resources for the DQ.

    The table below explains each option.

    Button or Link Details
    A. Assign Twig Books for the DQ Button that allows you to assign the digital Twig Book to students.

    B. Teacher Background Knowledge Context and information to help you teach.

    C. Word Wall Cards A list of each term with its definition and an example sentence. Underneath the list of words, there are vocabulary cards to print and cut out.

    The top of the card displays the grade level, module name, DQ number, and lesson number in which the word is taught.

  4. The Driving Questions page lists out each applicable lesson, divided by type. Each type of lesson has resources.

    Full Course Lessons and Fast Track Lessons contain the following resources:

    B. Open Slides

    Use the Open Slides link to download slides for all lessons in the Driving Question. Select between Google Slides and PowerPoint Slides.

    Slides from all lessons in the Driving Question will be included in the same file.

    C. Pacing Guide Guidance on how long to plan for each lesson, along with the standards covered and the types of assessment.

    Twig Coach Lessons contain the following resource:

    Scope and Sequence Guide

    Download and/or print the Twig Coach scope and sequence for the module and all its DQs.

  5. Click a lesson tile to open the lesson and its resources, or an assessment tile (if available for the DQ) to open the Assessments Library to preview or assign the assessment.

     Tip

    From any tile on the page you can mark the lesson or assessment as completed using the checkmark/tick icon or pin the lesson or assessment to your dashboard using the thumbtack/pin icon.
